Following the 2008 financial crisis, the provision of credit has increasingly moved out of the banking system and into what is now called the shadow banking system. OWL has been a key beneficiary of this trend, with AUM reaching a new record high of $295.6 billion at the end of Q3-25, up ~25% from a year ago. Now that hundreds of billions have been poured into private credit and AI infrastructure investments, some concerns about credit quality and underwriting standards are starting to emerge.
