What more could you ask for? We just got the November CPI report, delayed by a week because of the shutdown, and it was way better than expected. Overall inflation came in at 2.7%, versus 3.1% expected. Part of that is the drop in oil and gasoline this year -today's national average price at the pump is down to a whopping $ ! But even excluding fuel and food, the core was also way better than expected: 2.6%, versus the 3% estimate. Is it too good to be true? Possibly. The October report was cancelled entirely because of the government shutdown, leading to parts of this one being affected and incomplete. But odds of a March rate cut have nevertheless been rising. Treasury yields dropped as well, with the 10-year down to 4.1%, helping stocks regain their footing. The better inflation news, if it lasts, is a huge deal. It allows the Fed to lower rates by more. It means the consumer dollar--which is about to be boosted by extra-large tax refund checks in the spring--will go even fu
