This year, Valentine's Day spending in the United States is expected to reach a record $29.1 billion, the National Retail Federation estimates, surpassing the $27.5 billion spent a year ago, when inflation was an even bigger concern . Shoppers said they would spend an average of nearly $200, up from nearly $189 last year, says the NRF survey of 7,791 adults conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics. High prices remain on consumers' minds as they contemplate their Valentine's Day plans.
