The naturally leavened delight was tucked into a designer Gucci tin and yes, it was simply perfect. When a fashion house out-panettones your local pasticceria, you start paying attention to everything else it does in the kitchen. So when Gucci arrived at Milan Design Week with Gucci Memoria an immersive retrospective curated by Demna, creative director of Gucci, at the Chiostri di San Simpliciano, and led with a vending machine, I was already paying attention. The drink machine is part of the exhibition. Guests enter the first cloister with a QR code, redeemable at custom-built dispensers stocked with canned drinks from Gucci Giardino , the house's all-day café and cocktail bar on Florence's Piazza della Signoria. Each can is assigned to one of four archetypes from La Famiglia , Demna's fictional cast of Gucci personas: Fashion Icon, Drama Queen, Super Incazzata, Mega Pesantone.
