Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey plans to cut 242 jobs as of April 26, while Prudential Financial will let 54 employees go starting on May 7, the labor department indicated on a warn notice for 2026 A third company, Luna Foods, which also does business as Joey's Fine Foods, plans to eliminate 61 jobs as of June 5, the notice states. Prudential, which was founded in Newark in 1875 and is still headquartered there, issued a statement on Tuesday explaining the cuts. “Prudential Financial continually reviews its organizational structure to ensure it is meeting the evolving needs of its customers and maintaining its competitive position in the marketplace,” according to the statement. “This includes periodically eliminating certain roles that no longer align with Prudential's strategy.” Blue Cross Blue Shield, the nonprofit insurer of about million New Jerseyans, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
