Restaurant stocks at risk of labor shortages and reduced opening hours as coronavirus spreads Stifel analysts lowered earnings estimates for restaurant companies on Wednesday on expectations that the coronavirus that causes the illness COVID-19 will create labor shortages and impact opening hours as it continues to spread across the U.S. There are now 121,564 cases of the illness worldwide and at least 4,373 deaths, according to the latest data from the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering’s Centers for Systems Science and Engineering. There are 1,050 cases in the U.S., where 29 patients have died. “Within the hotspot areas, we have heard staffing has become an issue as employees want to avoid risking exposure, causing restaurants to alter their hours of operation,” Stifel analysts led by Chris O’Cull wrote in a note to clients. “Based on our channel checks, we believe restaurants outside of these areas have not seen a meaningful COVID-19 impact.” O’Cull examined the exposure o
