Roblox rises after MoffettNathanson upgrades to Neutral [Seeking Alpha]

The video game platform provider's stock slumped about 22% on Thursday after it offered a weaker-than-expected bookings forecast for the coming quarter and lowered it for the remainder of the year. The analysts noted that after the massive sell-off — and year-to-date relative underperformance — they were upgrading Roblox from Sell to Neutral. The company's monetization model, for now, relies on free-to-play mechanics and microtransactions. Roblox clearly has at least some pro-social elements and other benefits too. It is deeply concerned with safety and civility. But its audience is kids, the analysts added. If "screen time" is a hot-button issue for many parents, it is hard to see how Roblox could reliably grow (already very high) per-user engagement, said the analysts. Kids are anxious, parents are anxious, and investors are anxious, according to MoffettNathanson.
