The technology could drive a significant surge in earnings by streamlining complex booking processes and reducing reliance on expensive third-party travel agents. Direct booking shift In a note to clients, analysts led by Brandt Montour highlighted that the cruise sector has the most "direct upside" from AI compared to other travel sub-sectors. The core of this opportunity lies in a shift toward direct bookings, which would allow carriers to disintermediate traditional travel agents. Barclays estimates that approximately 3% to 6% of total industry gross revenue currently goes toward paying third-party commissions. By migrating these bookings to AI-powered direct channels, the bank calculates an earnings-per-share (EPS) upside of between 12% and 45% across the major players.
