Anthropic, the US firm behind the Claude chatbot , has launched a “productivity plugin” designed to help businesses with tasks traditionally farmed out to paralegal staff. The tool, effectively a junior law chatbot, will automate tasks such as contract reviews and compliance, and will be able to pull together templated responses for in-house legal teams. Its release has triggered a slump in the share prices of many of the best-known European software businesses, which are already under pressure to prove they will not be outcompeted by AI. Anthropic said its new “AI-powered productivity plugin” is able to help draft everything from contracts to legal briefings to non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) It said the “plugin assists with legal workflows but does not provide legal advice”, adding that any “AI-generated analysis should be reviewed by licensed attorneys”.
