A few weeks ago, Adam Hannett , an old friend, was appointed Bruichladdich Distillery's Master Distiller, following in the footsteps of the legendary whisky maker Jim McEwan, the distillery's original Master Distiller and Blender. For Hannett, an Islay (Ileach) native who began his career at Bruichladdich as a visitor center tour guide, the appointment marks the culmination of an extraordinary 20-year journey that brought him to one of Islay's most prestigious and coveted jobs. Hannett, 42, has spent the last 10 years as Head Distiller. During that time, according to Bruichladdich CEO Douglas Taylor, “he has helped define the modern identity of Bruichladdich's single malts and continued the legacy of his legendary mentor, Jim McEwan.” Hannett joined Bruichladdich in 2004, rising from a visitor center tour guide through the ranks to take over from McEwan in 2015.
