At the same time, the financial firm plans to consolidate a similar number of older branches. Regions Financial Corp. CEO John Turner made the disclosure at RBC Capital Markets investor and analyst conference on March 11. “We find customers still associate with branches, they want to come into branches when they need advice and guidance, when they have a problem,” Turner said. “We think branches still provide an important connection to our brand.” Turner said the company will build between 135 to 150 branches. Originally, Regions had plotted out a seven-year strategy, but accelerated plans recently, and could speed up the process further if land acquisition cooperates. The consolidation or closing of other branches would accommodate population shifts and small-business growth and helps regulate costs associated with managing its footprint.
