Roche to test Acterma as a treatment for COVID-19 Shares of Roche Holding AG ROG, +4.05% gained 3.7% in premarket trading on Thursday after the Swiss drugmaker said it plans to run a Phase 3 clinical testing Acterma, its rheumatoid arthritis drug, as a treatment for patients with COVID-19 who have been hospitalized with severe pneumonia. Roche said Thursday it is in talks with the Food and Drug Administration to set up the trial in partnership with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority. The trial is expected to begin enrolling around 330 patients in early April, in the U.S. and elsewhere in the world. The company plans to examine patient mortality and need for mechanical ventilation or an intensive care unit stay among other primary and secondary endpoints. Roche is also manufacturing COVID-19 tests for the U.S. Roche's stock is down 7.7% year-to-date, while the S&P 500 SPX, -5.18% has dropped 25.7%.
