The renowned musician, singer, and songwriter died March 22 after being seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in Ashland City, a little over 20 miles northeast from Nashville. He was 64 years old. A North Carolina native, Bowman began playing music at the age of three. According to his official website , he performed in a family band playing churches in North Carolina and Virginia. Bowman began his professional career in 1988 with the bluegrass band The Lost and Found. He later served as vocalist and bass player for the Lonesome River Band from 1990 to 2001. Bowman's several solo projects included his 1994 album, "Cold Virginia Night" which was awarded Album of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association . Its title track won Song of the Year in 1995. He was also named IBMA Male Vocalist of the Year three times, in 1995, 1998 and 1999. Bowman was a songwriter for many bluegrass and country artists.
