The accretive transaction will, among other things, strengthen RIG's balance sheet, improve liquidity, increase backlog, result in substantial cost savings, and create a path to medium-term shareholder capital returns. The proposed acquisition is also positive for the broader industry as a whole, particularly with VAL being considered one of the less disciplined bidders. With VAL getting acquired at a substantial premium and considering the persistent re-rating of energy stocks by market participants, I have raised price targets for offshore drillers across the board.
