RITM has been focusing on becoming a large asset manager and moving away from simply being an mREIT. This means a likely conversion to a C corporation structure. A change to a C corporate structure means that dividends on its preferred stocks would become “qualified,” giving RITM preferred stocks huge after-tax yields. Two of my favorite RITM preferreds are RITM-B, with its current 9.50% yield and 20% tax break on its dividends, and RITM-D for a short-term, high-yielding security. RITM-E and RITM-F are also quite attractive. They have very long call protection and would likely benefit the most from a conversion to becoming high-yielding qualified dividend payers.
