As predicted, the star of the turned out to be Lot 22, a 1938 Bugatti Type 57C Aravis ‘Special Cabriolet.' It flew past Gooding & Company's initial $2.5 to $3.5 Million estimate and ultimately hammered for $6 Million, a world record for the model. Though one car was withdrawn late in the game and some high-profile cars came in under thier estimates, the unusual auction generated $19,016,295 in sales and the house sold 100% of the lots. A second Bugatti, a 1930 Type 46 Semi-Profilée Coupe also set a record for that model at just over $1.1 Million. Other very notable sales included a Citroën 2CV Sahara ($128,800), a 1933 Hispano-Suiza J12 Cabriolet ($2,315,000) and a 1912 Renault Type CB Landaulet ($257,600). A few German interlopers also did well, including a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster ($1,105,000).
