LondonPriceDrop, an anonymous account on X and Instagram, has amassed thousands of followers after posting about London homes selling below the price their owners paid for them. The account keeps a running tally, one stricken listing at a time, of drastic price cuts across the capital which have appeared on property portal Rightmove. Take the semi-detached in Barnet, which sold for £880,000 in 2022 before dropping to £500,000 when it changed hands in October; or the flat in Brent, which saw its price drop to £375,000 from £680,000. But behind the social media flippancy is a sobering reality about Britain's property market : that bricks and mortar in London is no longer the safe bet it once was.
