The jumble of buildings used throughout the Cold War lie gaunt and forgotten, weeds growing tall among cracks in giant paving slabs and piles of rubble; the only splashes of colour from bright red gas canisters discarded behind a decrepit caravan. This is Fraser Range, an 11.4-acre former MoD site on the south-east of Portsea Island in Portsmouth, that developers hope to turn into 134 new homes from one-bedroom apartments to six-bedroom houses . Looking out to sea with your back to the fence it is easy to imagine this site in its heyday, but now it lies exposed, bleak and an utter eyesore – with a quite unusual problem.
