British retail woes continue to burden E.ON ahead of Npower buy - Reuters 2 Min Read FRANKFURT (Reuters) - E.ON’s UK business curbed its first-quarter earnings, the German energy provider said on Monday, raising expectations it may restructure the unit ahead of a planned acquisition of Innogy’s Npower. Group adjusted earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) fell 8% to 1.67 billion euros ($1.88 billion) versus the 1.64 billion forecast by analysts in a Reuters poll. Its retail unit saw a 44 percent fall in profit. “The Customer Solutions’ business in the United Kingdom remained under considerable pressure. The new regulatory cap for power prices and keen competition were the primary reasons for the 90 million euro decline in E.ON’s earnings there,” E.ON said.
