On a pro-forma basis, Rayonier now owns 4.1 million acres of timberland, in addition to six sawmills, one plywood manufacturing facility and a real estate development business. Based on the current share price of $20.30 per share, Rayonier currently trades at an implied valuation of ~$1,800 per acre, which is well below private market transactions. Timberland in the Southern United States generally trades between $2,000 and $3,000 an acre. Timberlands located close to large urban centers can sell for much more than that also. I plan to slowly accumulate shares as they drift lower, while keeping a long-term investment horizon in mind. At $18.00 per share or below, I would change my 'Buy' rating to a 'Strong Buy'.
