Saia spent $14.25 million on two properties in Kernersville, North Carolina, securing a much larger footprint than its closest terminal in Greensboro, according to county records. XPO previously owned the sites. The LTL carriers completed the transaction on Dec. 19. The deal involved 33,200 square feet of building space at 438 W. Bodenhamer St., per an online database Network density fits with Saia's long-term strategy to raise service levels and offerings, CEO Fritz Holzgrefe previously noted on a Q3 earnings call last year. Saia's network in North Carolina features six sites, according to its website, with the closest one to Kernersville located in Greensboro. Compared to the Kernersville addition, the Greensboro site is much smaller , with a footprint of 10,396 square feet.
