Merger talk boost shares of Subsea and Saipem as European stocks cling to gains Merger speculation sent shares of oil providers Subsea 7 and Saipem higher on Friday, as European stock markets largely clung to gains across the board amid optimism over the U.S.-China trade negotiations. The Stoxx Europe 600 SXXP, +0.05% rose 0.1% to 404.89, after a drop of around 0.4% on Thursday to 405.52. The index is facing a loss of 0.5% this week, which would be its first weekly loss in six. The German DAX DAX, -0.27% was flat at 13186.69, the French CAC PX1, +0.38% added 0.2% to 5,915.07. The U.K. FTSE 100 UKX, -0.42% fell 0.5% to 7255.32. Equities gained in Asia, as did U.S. stock futures after White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said a Sino-American trade deal was close.
