The coffee giant has made significant changes across its business in recent years, including closing hundreds of locations while investing heavily in store upgrades and new formats designed to win back customers. The strategy has already produced some unexpected moves. In September 2025, Starbucks surprised many customers when it permanently closed two major Starbucks Reserve Roastery locations in Seattle: one inside its global headquarters building after nine years in the city's SODO district and another after 11 years on Capitol Hill. Now, more closures are planned in the company's hometown market.
