After 25 years of the same beloved recipe, Starbucks has decided to change its chai latte. Starbucks announced on March 2 that a new chai latte recipe will be available in coffee shops starting Tuesday, March 3. Customers can now alter the sweetness and spiciness of their chai lattes. Starbucks first launched its Chai Tea Latte in Los Angeles in January 1998. Inspired by masala chai, the beverage was made with black tea, cinnamon, clove and ginger, topped with steamed milk and foam, according to a Starbucks news release. By 1999, the Chai Latte and Iced Chai Latte were permanent staples on the Starbucks menu. Since its introduction more than 25 years ago, Starbucks customers have continued to enjoy the Chai Latte through new iterations, including the Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai in the fall and Gingerbread Chai in the winter.
