Investors are betting on stable growth again as flurry of acquisitions signal bright future A takeover bid for Hudson’s Bay Co., announced Wednesday, adds to the growing swell of optimism in global markets. The clearest demonstration of that newfound bullishness is this week’s wild flurry of deal-making. In addition to Catalyst Capital Group Inc.’s US$1.5-billion bid for HBC, Quebec convenience store operator Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. unveiled a US$5.8-billion play for Caltex Australia Ltd. Meanwhile, U.S. retail broker Charles Schwab Corp. announced a US$26-billion merger with rival TD Ameritrade Holding Corp., and French luxury goods peddler LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE agreed on a US$16.6-billion deal to acquire jeweller Tiffany & Co.
