Cautia Wadood from the San Bernardino County Children's Network accepted the proclamation from the Victorville City Council at its April 7 meeting. She says that there were 30,545 suspected child abuse calls in San Bernardino County last year alone. In Victorville, there were 2,754 suspected calls made, which Wadood says is a "large" amount. That number is on the downslide, however, as it was about 100 referrals higher in 2024. "Progress is being made, but it's really slow. Clearly, we still have work to do," Wadood added. She encourages Victor Valley residents to say something should they see maltreatment. "We encourage all citizens to help prevent child abuse, and to provide for the physical, emotional and developmental needs of our children," Victorville Mayor Elizabeth Becerra said at the council meeting.
