2025 . SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son wants to improve its position in the global AI ecosystem.To finance the investment, SoftBank liquidated its $5.8 billion interest in Nvidia, sold $4.8 billion of T-Mobile, and cut Vision Fund activities and personnel. Any deal above $50 million now requires Son's permission, slowing most large-scale dealmaking.The corporation is also considering using $11.5 billion in undrawn margin loans secured by its interest in chip manufacturer Arm Holdings. SoftBank's borrowing capability is boosted by Arm's stock, which has quadrupled since its IPO.In early 2026, SoftBank will put its digital payments business PayPay up for an IPO that may garner over $20 billion. To increase liquidity, the business may sell some of its DiDi Global assets.After years of instability in its aim Fund portfolio, analysts believe the fundraising is a key test for Son's long-term aim to make SoftBank an AI investing leader.
