U.K.-based bubble tea brand Gong Cha — with 2,200 stores in 33 countries globally, including 240 locations in the U.S. — is getting its first major brand refresh. The beverage chain is unveiling “Gong Cha 2.0” — a new era and store redesign that emphasizes automation technology, including automated beverage preparation and kiosks. After testing the new proprietary technology system — dubbed “Super Wu” — in the Middle East and Asia over the last couple of years, Gong Cha will now be rolling out its 2.0 store redesign to stores in the Americas. “We're using technology to take advantage of labor optimization, but also to elevate the guest experience,” Geoff Henry, president of Gong Cha, Americas, said in an interview. “Our target consumer is young, 18 to 30 years old, and they really love interfacing with the kiosk to explore the menu and customize their order. ….
