Email the reporter at vnocera@oregonian.com Founded in 1949, Signet Jewelers operates about 2,600 stores across various luxury banners , including top names like Kay Jewelers and Blue Nile. “Previously, we were supporting eight distinct independent businesses,” Joan Hilson, Signet's chief financial officer, said in a March 19 earnings call . “We've changed our focus to a portfolio of brands with four core engines.” That quartet of brands includes top earners Kay Jewelers Zales and Jared , along with the more recently acquired online retailer Blue Nile , which Signet bought in 2022. The plan will also require Signet to cut two of its less successful brands as soon as this year. Rocksbox , a jewelry rental platform acquired by Signet in 2021, is one brand taking the hit.
