Sugar prices are moving sharply higher today as dollar weakness (DXY00) has sparked short covering in sugar futures. On Monday, NY sugar fell to a 2.5-month low, and London sugar dropped to a 5-year low, as the outlook for global sugar surpluses and higher global production has hammered prices. Last Thursday, Green Pool Commodity Specialists said that they expect a 2.74 MMT global sugar surplus for 2025/26 and a 156,000 MT surplus for 2026/27.
