Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group is the largest shopping mall operator in the U.S. Here's how it came to be and what the future holds for the company. David Simon has died at the age of 64, according to a news release from the board of directors of Simon Property Group, Inc. The property group owns White Oaks Mall in Springfield. Simon died peacefully after a battle with cancer on March 22, according to the release. Simon built the property group into the largest retail company in the world. It is a Indianapolis-based company. In addition to CEO, Simon was president chairman of the board. Simon's oldest son, Eli, has been appointed the new CEO and president.
