NextStar Energy Ltd. has already hired 1,300 people at its plant in Windsor, Ont., and announced earlier this week that it had produced its one millionth battery cell. Chief executive Danies Lee said the plant can produce any type of battery if it makes economic sense, mentioning humanoid robots as one example, and it has already shifted from producing EV batteries to producing batteries for energy storage systems (ESS), which use different chemistries and are stationary. “There are new markets and existing markets, which are growing much faster than we expected,” he said at the Canadian International AutoShow in downtown Toronto. “The example of an existing market is the ESS and the new market (are things like) physical AI and robots.
