parts supplier Spirit AeroSystems ( NYSE: SPR ), Reuters reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter. An agreement between the two plane makers would effectively end Boeing's ( BA ) longer-term effort to outsource manufacturing after a near-catastrophe on a 737 Max 9 that in early January lost a metal panel after takeoff. Spirit AeroSystems ( SPR ), which was spun out of Boeing ( BA ) in 2005, is a key supplier to Boeing ( BA ) and Airbus ( OTCPK:EADSY OTCPK:EADSF ). The two plane makers are seeking to form different ties with Spirit ( SPR ) through a timed "framework" deal, Reuters reported. Previously, Boeing ( BA ) had weighed acquiring Spirit ( SPR ) as a single company before selling factories worldwide that mostly supply Airbus ( OTCPK:EADSF OTCPK:EADSY ), Reuters reported.
