Boeing's ( BA ) MAX production has dropped sharply in recent weeks as U.S. regulators step up factory checks and workers slow the Seattle assembly line to complete outstanding work, and the slowdown is hitting Spirit Aero ( SPR ), which makes ~70% of a 737 plane. "When I walk the shop floors things have slowed down," Cornell Beard, president of the Wichita, Kansas, union district which represents Spirit Aero ( SPR ) workers, told Reuters, adding the company cut overtime last week. Spirit AeroSystems ( SPR ) is "aligning our production to support our customer's rate profile," which includes "limiting overtime as well as hiring for specific roles, including contractors," in the near term, a spokesperson told Reuters. The company has not reported an annual profit since 2020 following two fatal 737 MAX crashes and the COVID-induced slump in travel that hit other Boeing ( BA ) suppliers.
