After a decade of organizing, the UAW has ratified a contract in Chattanooga. The contract improves upon Volkswagen's "last, best and final" offer made in October. Now that the contract is ratified, each worker will get a $6,550 bonus. The third time was the charm in Tennessee. The United Auto Workers have officially won in Chattanooga, Tennessee, after attempting to organize the southern Volkswagen plant for over a decade, failing twice before. The union makes history with the vote; the plant is the first ever major automotive plant in the American South to unionize, according to reporting by Detroit Free Press, part of the USA TODAY Network. By a 96% margin, workers at the Volkswagen Chattanooga Assembly Plant ratified the tentative agreement reached after 18 months of negotiations, making the contract official.
