Applied Optoelectronics shares fall as revenue, outlook miss Applied Optoelectronics Inc. AAOI, +3.66% shares declined in the extended session Wednesday after the fiber-optics company's revenue and outlook fell below Wall Street estimates. Applied Optoelectronics shares fell 4% after hours. For the first quarter, the company estimates earnings of 28 cents to 34 cents a share on revenue of $67 million to $71 million. Analysts expect earnings of 69 cents a share on revenue of $86.4 million. The company reported fourth-quarter net income of $5.7 million, or 28 cents a share, compared with $14.2 million, or 77 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Adjusted earnings were 89 cents a share. Revenue fell to $79.9 million from $84.9 million in the year-ago period. Analysts surveyed by FactSet had estimated 83 cents a share on revenue of $85.5 million. Lower-than-expected revenue was "due to lower demand from our datacenter customers as they continue to evolve their network architectures,"
