Summary When Apple ( AAPL ) held its conference call for the FQ1 earnings release, CFO Luca Maestri made some very important comments relating to the company’s enormous cash position. He said: Tax reform will allow us to pursue a more optimal capital structure for our company. Our current net cash position is $163 billion. And given the increased financial and operational flexibility from the access to our foreign cash, we are targeting to become approximately net cash neutral over time. In a previous post I discussed how FQ1 earnings results were really much better than most analysts have recognized. That is, when you account for the extra week a year ago, Apple handily beat year-over-year numbers in both revenue and unit sales . In a follow up post, I discussed the real implications of Apple’s revenue guidance , including an estimation of iPhone sales. In this post I will discuss the importance of the impending repatriation of Apple’s overseas cash hoard.
