American Eagle Outfitters is finding strength beyond denim, and analysts are relieved American Eagle Outfitters Inc. eased analyst fears that it was becoming too reliant on denim, with third-quarter earnings showing strength across its assortment of bottoms as well as bralettes and menswear. American Eagle Outfitters AEO, +0.24% shares were up 2% after the clothing retailer reported same-store sales growth of 3% beating the 1.9% FactSet estimate. American Eagle jeans set a record for volume in the third quarter, and all of the men’s and women’s bottoms categories posted the best third-quarter results ever, executives said on the Wednesday earnings call, according to a FactSet transcript. “American Eagle’s competitive moat is lined with high-quality denim,” wrote Cowen & Company analysts led by Oliver Chen.
