Manitowoc shares jump 8% after company posts GAAP profit Manitowoc Co. MTW, -6.22% shares rose more than 8% late Thursday after the maker of cranes and other machinery swung to a GAAP profit in the third quarter and quarterly sales came in above expectations. Manitowoc said it earned $35.3 million, or 97 cents a share, in the quarter, versus a loss of $33.4 million, or 96 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Net sales rose to $481.5 million, from $378.2 million in the year-ago period. The company pinned it mostly in increased demand for its products in the U.S. and Europe. Analysts polled by FactSet had expected the company to report a GAAP loss of 7 cents a share on sales of $423 million in the quarter.
