Summary An early theme of 2017 has been the 'reflation' trade, which at its fundamental level entails interest rate hikes and stronger nominal economic growth. Mortgage REITs' entire business model revolves around spreads between the interest rates they pay and the ones they receive from their mortgage-related investments. While that's akin to banks, BDCs, or other financial companies to a degree, the focus on mortgage-related holdings, combined with the dividends these companies pay, make the exposure to economic trends especially acute. All of which is to say we thought it would be a good time to speak with ColoradoWealthManagementFund .
