Stanley Black & Decker shares rose about 5% in early trading. The sale was not a surprise, as management had signaled plans to separate the aerospace fastening business for months. Airplane parts maker Howmet, which is seeing a surge in demand from its customers is acquiring the Consolidated Aerospace Manufacturing unit, in an all-cash transaction. The unit makes fasteners and engineered components for aerospace and defense customers, Jefferies analysts have called the deal a key milestone in its multi-year restructuring. The brokerage views the divestiture as a tactical move to reduce debt. The selling of unit will also help redirect resources toward Stanley Black & Decker's core Tools and Outdoor segment, as well as its auto fasteners business, where it has stronger market positions. Analysts see the valuation as attractive as implied multiples are well above typical industrial divestitures, and said the proceeds provide meaningful financial flexibility. Jefferies expects
