Shares of Tal Education Group , a provider of K-12 after-school tutoring services in China, fell 9% in premarket trade Wednesday, after the company said one of its employees is in police custody after it reported them for inflating sales. Beijing-based TAL said it uncovered irregularities in the course of a routine internal audit in its new "light class" business. "The company suspects that the employee of question conspired with external vendors to wrongly inflate "light class" sales by forging contracts and other documentations," the company said in a statement. "Light class" sales accounted for about 3% to 4% of the company's total estimated revenue for fiscal 2020 ended Feb. 29. TAL's U.S.-listed shares have gained 16% in the year to date, while the S&P 500 has fallen 18%.
