Alibaba ( NYSE:BABA ) and Tencent just hit a wall, losing about $66 billion in market value as investors started asking a simple question, when does AI actually start making money? The reaction was pretty sharp. Alibaba saw its biggest drop since October, while Tencent had its worst day in nearly a year. In Hong Kong, Alibaba fell as much as 7.3%, wiping out a good chunk of the recent AI-driven rally. What's interesting is that investors aren't pushing back on the spending itself. Alibaba alone has committed over $53 billion to AI, while U.S. players like Amazon ( NASDAQ:AMZN ) and Meta ( NASDAQ:META ) are expected to spend around $650 billion in 2026. Warning!
