3 min read In this article Canadians are looking to cut back on gifts and entertainment this holiday season as the cost of living rises, yet experts caution that those plans may not translate into real savings amid pricier essentials and the seasonal pull to spend. “Canadians are feeling real financial pressure from the season, and it's driven by what's happening in the economy around us,” said Joe Moghaizel, vice-president of everyday advice journey at TD Bank. “The cost of living, inflation, groceries — those are all taking a bite at their income on a regular monthly basis.” According to a recent TD Bank survey, 36 per cent of Canadians intend to trim their holiday expenses this year, up from 32 per cent in 2023. Nearly half (46 per cent) plan to cut back on gifts for family, while 44 per cent are reducing spending on social outings and 38 per cent are buying fewer gifts for friends.
