Labor remains a crucial concern for restaurant operators going into 2026, especially as AI technology becomes more prevalent, TD Bank found from its survey of 253 restaurant franchise leaders at the 2025 Restaurant Finance & Development Conference. According to the survey, 54% of operators cited a shrinking labor pool as their biggest concern in attracting and retaining talent in the year ahead. Participants also cited other economic challenges like tariffs, immigration reform, and interest rates as key factors that are shaping the industry in the year ahead. These concerns about labor line up with how operators identified AI at a potential solution for the industry.
