Millions of patients tried telehealth visits as the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted in-person care delivery.AMWELLTLast night, Amwell increased its initial public offering price from $16 to $18 per share, valuing the company at more than $4 billion. The stock opened well above that: trading at $25.51 per share, and closing at $23.07. The Boston-based company saw a huge revenue boost this year, as health insurers and hospital systems drove millions of patients toward video visits as the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted in-person care delivery. “During Covid, a critical amount of people tried telehealth for the first time,” says Amwell co-CEO Ido Schoenberg. “When I say people, by the way, I don't necessarily refer to patients only. I'm very much talking about doctors” he added.Amwell brought in $122.3 million in revenue in the first six months of the year, a 77% increase over the same period last year, and approaching the $149 million the company reported in all of 2019.
