Apparel retailers could see an up to $13 billion annual boost in spending because of GLP-1 drugs, according to an estimate by equity research firm Bernstein. Some of the biggest beneficiaries could be off-price retailers like T.J. Maxx, discounters like Walmart and Target and bespoke retailers like Stitch Fix or Rent the Runway, said Aneesha Sherman, lead analyst covering U.S. apparel and specialty retail for Bernstein. In this article Michelle Suter has worn mostly big and baggy clothing for years. The 63-year-old retiree who lives in a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri gave away her favorite sundresses and other form-fitting outfits, thinking she'd never be those smaller sizes again.
