“On certain vehicles, water could leak into the rear door handle and cause the door opener switch to short circuit. If this happens, the rear door could open unexpectedly while driving,” the updated notice by Transport Canada says. The affected models are: Toyota Prius, model years 2023 to 2026 Toyota Prius Prime, model years 2023 to 2026 Toyota recommends that consumers enable the automatic door locking function through the vehicle's head unit to reduce the risk of the rear door opening while driving. Additionally, the carmaker will advise owners by mail to take the vehicle to a dealership to modify the rear door switch circuits. According to the notice, this recall is an expansion of Transport Canada recall no. 2024-228 for the same issue. Vehicles that were repaired under that recall also require this repair, the notice adds.
