Officials up and down the California coast — including in Orange County — are moving to restrict parking access to their parks and beaches in a bid to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus. Orange County took the plunge Tuesday, following an order by Gov. Gavin Newsom to close parking lots at California’s state parks. Newsom ordered the “soft closure” on Monday night, after large crowds descended on public parks over the weekend. “I think we need to take action today,” Orange County Supervisor Lisa Bartlett said during the board’s meeting Tuesday. “We’ve got to protect the public. We’ve got a public health crisis out there.” (Though supervisors took their typical places behind the dais Tuesday, a number of seats inside the chamber were kept open to prevent those in the audience from sitting too close to one another.)
