Jan. 16, 2026, 1:28 p.m. ET Chinese automaker BYD "stands poised to officially surpass Tesla as the world's biggest electric vehicle company in annual sales" according to Yahoo Finance . The automaker produces competitive electric vehicle nameplates that sell thousands of units in China, Europe, South America and more. BYD models may not be sold in America but the Chinese companies vehicles and their capabilities have become benchmarks for many American electric vehicle manufacturers. There are plenty of electric vehicles sold in America that have impressive driving ranges or outrageous acceleration times.
